LOS ANGELES Reuters - Socialite Paris Hilton was arrested in Las Vegas on Friday night and charged with cocaine possession, celebrity website TMZ reported on Saturday.
Hilton, 29, a former reality TV star, was arrested after a traffic stop by police in which an undisclosed amount of cocaine was allegedly found in her purse, the website said.
Hilton was a passenger in the car; the unidentified driver was charged with driving under the influence.
Hilton was released from jail early on Saturday morning, the website reported.
Hilton, the great-granddaughter of Hilton hotels founder Conrad Hilton, has worked as a model, singer, actress, fashion designer and reality TV star. She runs multimillion-dollar businesses based on her name including clothing lines, fragrances and wine.
She spent three weeks in a Los Angeles jail in 2007 for violating her probation in an earlier reckless driving charge.
