Lawyer: Paris Was Released On Her Own Recognizance omg

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Paris Hilton has been released after being arrested for cocaine possession late Friday night in Las Vegas, Access Hollywood has confirmed.

"Paris Hilton was released this morning on her own recognizance," Hiltons attorney, David Chesnoff, said in a statement to Access Hollywood on Saturday afternoon. "This matter will be dealt with in the courts not in the media and I encourage people not to rush to judgment until all of the facts have been dealt with in a court of law."

The celebutante was arrested during a traffic stop after a police officer claimed he noticed a strong odor of marijuana wafting from the windows of a black Cadillac Escalade Hilton was riding in, Las Vegas police told Access.

"The basis for the stop was that the officer noticed the strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle as it traveled along Las Vegas Blvd near the Wynn Hotel Casino," the Las Vegas Police Department said in a press release on Saturday.

Hiltons boyfriend, Cy Waits, the owner and driver of the vehicle, was "arrested for DUI Drugs and or Alcohol," police confirmed.

Both Hilton and Waits were transported to Clark County Detention center for booking, and Paris was released at 2:45 AM Saturday, according to police. Waits remains in custody, but is expected to be released Saturday afternoon.

The 29-year-old socialite retained Chesnoff, a high profile Las Vegas attorney whose former celebrity clients include David Copperfield, Martha Stewart and Britney Spears.

This is not Hiltons first brush with the law.

In 2007, Hilton pleaded no contest to a charge of alcohol-related reckless driving, and was sentenced to 45 days in jail of which she served 23. The heiress probation period for the incident ended in 2009.

Earlier this year, she was detained in July in South Africa for alleged marijuana possession while at a World Cup game. Charges against the heiress were dropped after a friend said the pot belonged to her.
