Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez win big at Teen Choice

LOS ANGELES | Sun Aug 7, 2011 10:34pm EDT

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Country sensation Taylor Swift and actress/singer Selena Gomez caught major waves at the Teen Choice awards on Sunday, with Swift scooping up six surfboard trophies including one for Ultimate Teen Choice.

Swift, who soared to popularity in 2006 at age 16 with her self-titled debut album, was named the favorite female artist, country singer and red carpet fashion icon. She also scored with best country single for her song "Mean" and choice breakup song "Back to December."

Accepting her Ultimate Teen Choice surfboard onstage, Swift, 21, thanked her fans and joked that "it's been a long time since I was a teenager, like two years."

She noted how teenagers often are teased by adults because they are "intense" or "romantic," but she encouraged kids in the audience and watching at home on the Fox TV network, saying: "I think all those things are amazing things, and to all the teens watching, I hope you never lose those things."

The Teen Choice Awards are an annual stop on Hollywood's award circuit and give actors, musicians and other artists who are popular with kids the chance to thank their fans.

Gomez, who performed her hit single "I Love You Like a Love Song" with her band The Scene, won choice TV actress in a drama for her role in "Wizards of Waverly Place." She was also named choice "hottie," and The Scene scored the award for top band and for single of the year with their song "Who Says."

The 19-year-old Gomez also saw her boyfriend, Justin Bieber, scoop up surfboards for being the top "hottie" as well as the choice "twit." Bieber, 17, was named top male artist and earned an acting award for his recent work on television.

But perhaps the most poignant honor was not a Teen Choice surfboard, but a special "Inspire" trophy that went to Demi Lovato, an 18-year-old singer and actress who late last year pulled out of a concert tour to enter rehab for abuse issues.

Since then, Lovato has talked openly about her problems with eating disorders and cutting herself that she linked to being bullied at school when she was younger. And she started a foundation called Love Is Louder Than the Pressure to be Perfect to help kids combat peer pressure.

"You guys are what got me through this last year," she said to screaming fans at the Teen Choice Awards. "Love is louder, I love you guys so much."

Other top honors went to "Twilight" actor Robert Pattinson, who was named choice vampire for his role in the popular romance movies. He was also named best movie actor in a drama.

Numerous other winners, including Cameron Diaz, Ashton Kutcher, Blake Lively and the cast of TV show "Glee," were announced. A list will be posted at www.teenchoiceawards.com.

Outkast rapper Big Boi arrested for drugs

MIAMI | Sun Aug 7, 2011 9:34pm EDT

MIAMI (Reuters) - Miami police arrested Outkast rapper and "Hey Ya" singer Big Boi on Sunday for possessing ecstasy and other drugs that the performer's lawyer later characterized as "contraband."

Media reports cited the Miami-Dade County Corrections Department's website as listing the rapper, whose real name is Antwan Patton, as having been arrested for having ecstasy, MDMA powder and Viagra, for which he had no prescription.

The Miami Herald reported that Big Boi faces a fourth count of possession of drug paraphernalia. Celebrity website TMZ.com said he was arrested by customs officials exiting a cruise ship, and that he'd been booked into jail in the afternoon but was released after posting a bond.

On the singer's official Twitter account, Big Boi initially tweeted "Fresh Out Baby!" and later, "...they said it was the Love Boat..." But details of the arrest could not be confirmed on Sunday evening.

An attorney for the rapper issued a statement saying he expects Big Boi will beat the charges.

"While Big Boi was traveling with his group and friends, a small amount of contraband was found in the collective luggage," attorney Daniel Kane said in a statement.

"I am confident when the entire facts are aired Big Boi will be completely exonerated."

Outkast was formed by Andre' Benjamin (who later became known as Andre 3000) and Patton (Big Boi) in the 1990s with a distinct brand of southern-influenced hip hop music. The pair scored several hits over the years including pop song "Hey Ya" from 2003 album, Speakerboxxx/The Love Below.

New Yorker charged with stalking French actress Cotillard

NEW YORK | Sun Aug 7, 2011 11:56am EDT

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Oscar-winning actress Marion Cotillard, cast in the next Batman movie, has a role in a real life Gotham crime after a stalker sent threatening messages to her fan site.

Teresa "Terri" Yuan, who lives in Queens, was arrested by the FBI on Thursday last week, said Robert Nardoza, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's office in Brooklyn, which also covers Queens.

She was charged with sending threatening messages to a French movie actress, according to a criminal complaint. The actress is Cotillard, a law enforcement source told Reuters on Saturday.

Federal authorities have 30 days to seek a grand jury indictment. Yuan was released Friday on $50,000 bond, authorities said.

"The guilt and sorrow I feel now, I won't feel after it happens," said one of the videos Yuan e-mailed from Queens to fan club servers in New Jersey.

"After it happens I'll feel no regret whatsoever...that's apparently how it feels to be a killer, to be a murderer."

Yuan was accused of e-mailing several threatening videos and messages to the website, including one in which she indicated she knew Cotillard's travel schedule and planned to meet her.

No future court dates have been set in the case, which was heard in U.S. District Court in Brooklyn, Nardoza said.

Cotillard, 35, who won the Best Actress Academy Award for her role as Edith Piaf in "La Vie en Rose," also appeared in Woody Allen's "Midnight in Paris," "Inception" and is cast in the upcoming Batman movie "The Dark Knight Rises."

Yuan's lawyer, Michael Schneider, declined to comment.
